Winemaker Vision

The Gospel is driven by a passion for creating distinctive Australian rye whiskey that challenges convention while honouring traditional distilling craftsmanship. With a grain-to-glass philosophy, the distillery focuses on locally grown rye, thoughtful fermentation, and careful barrel maturation to produce bold, expressive spirits. Its vision is to showcase the unique character of Australian grain and climate, creating whiskey with depth, complexity, and an unmistakable sense of place.

Terroir

Based in Melbourne, Victoria, The Gospel draws much of its character from Australian-grown rye sourced from the Murray Mallee region of South Australia. This dry, sun-drenched agricultural landscape experiences hot summers, limited rainfall, and challenging growing conditions that produce resilient, flavourful grain. The rye's distinctive character forms the foundation of The Gospel's whiskey, while Melbourne's variable climate influences barrel maturation. The interaction between grain, fermentation, oak, and seasonal temperature changes contributes to whiskey with pronounced spice, rich cereal notes, and layered complexity.

About the Winery

Founded in 2016 in Melbourne, The Gospel is an independent Australian whiskey producer specializing in rye whiskey. Established with the ambition of bringing Australian rye to the forefront of contemporary whiskey production, the distillery combines traditional American-inspired rye whiskey techniques with a distinctly Australian identity. The Gospel takes a grain-to-glass approach, working with Australian-grown rye and overseeing the production process from milling and fermentation through distillation and maturation. Its range includes Solera Rye, Straight Rye Whiskey, and limited-release expressions that explore the versatility and complexity of rye. Recognized for its bold flavour profiles and distinctive approach to whiskey production, The Gospel has helped introduce a new generation of drinkers to Australian rye, celebrating local agriculture, craftsmanship, and innovation.
