Winemaker Vision

At Château Font Barrièle, Christian and Caroline Gourjon are devoted to crafting wines that express the character of their land while preserving its natural heritage. Their philosophy brings together four generations of family winemaking expertise, organic and biodynamic viticulture, and a profound respect for biodiversity. Each wine is a reflection of their commitment to authenticity, balance, and the distinctive identity of southern Rhône Valley terroir.

Terroir

Situated in the Costières de Nîmes appellation, between the Rhône Valley, Provence, and the Camargue, Château Font Barrièle benefits from a remarkable Mediterranean environment. Its vineyards grow on ancient Rhône terraces covered with galets roulés (rounded river pebbles), which retain warmth and encourage optimal grape ripening. Cooling Mediterranean breezes and the powerful Mistral wind help maintain freshness, preserve fruit intensity, and support healthy vines. This distinctive terroir is particularly suited to Rhône varieties such as Syrah and Grenache, producing wines of depth, elegance, and expressive character.

About the Winery

Founded in 1857 by Auguste Gourjon, Château Font Barrièle is a family-owned estate whose winemaking heritage spans four generations. Located near Jonquières-Saint-Vincent in southern France, the property has remained in the Gourjon family, passing through generations of dedicated winegrowers. In 2012, Christian Gourjon took over the family estate, later joined by his wife Caroline in 2015, an experienced oenologist and agricultural engineer. Together, they revitalized and expanded the vineyard to approximately 72 hectares, embracing certified organic and biodynamic practices. The estate is also situated within a protected Natura 2000 area, where its environmentally conscious viticulture helps safeguard the habitat of the endangered little bustard. Today, Château Font Barrièle produces expressive Costières de Nîmes and Côtes du Rhône wines, combining family heritage, environmental stewardship, and contemporary winemaking expertise.
