An historic winery founded in 1879, Vinos Guerra is still making wines with vines that are 50+ years old, from organically grown dry-farmed vineyards. In addition, Guerra controls a third of all the vineyard land in Bierzo and only makes wine with the best 10% of the grapes harvested.
Made from 100% Mencia grapes, an indigenous red grape variety, the bunches were hand-harvested from older bush vines. Cold maceration for 3–5 days, then fermented in concrete tanks for 20 days, followed by another 8 days for malolactic fermentation. Ageing occurs for 4 months in French oak barrels.
Cherry red colour with a purple rim and red and black fruit with bramble notes on the aroma. Fresh fruit and a wonderful lift with mineral and touch of herbal notes on the finish.
