CONTINUING THE HERITAGE
Rioja Vega is today one of the few wineries in the region whose winemaking tradition dates back more than 125 years. In the early years the French grape growers and wine makers were fleeing the phylloxera ravaged vineyards in their country. They chose land in the Rioja as they knew the proximity to the Ebro River, its rugged soil and excellent grape-growing climate could produce outstanding wine.
Felipe Ugalde, who later joined forces with the Muerza family, was able to take full advantage of the knowledge of these pioneers and later, pass it on to his heirs. By continuing with the same pioneering attitude, wisdom gained over the many years and innovation brought on by research and technological advances, these wines continue the vision of the founders.
Today Rioja Vega’s main values are: respect the most precious jewels—grapes; simplicity of the winemaking process; and the evolution of the wines.
Wine is, and has always been, a passion for Rioja Vega.
