The best part about January is the arrival of what I like to call the "renewal wines". Perfectly suited to the mood of this time, these wines are mid-weight and packed with potential.  You will start to see some these around Toronto already, so go grab a glass and see if you agree!

Vina Undurraga Late Harvest Semillon. This botrytis effected dessert wine has the most astounding balance of sugar, fruit and acidity we have see for a very long time. It's no wonder this is the top selling desert wine in its native Chile. Taste it at: Cava.  $17.95 (375ml x 12)

Bodegas Callia Bella Malbec. If you squint you can see the bottle shot, but there's nothing subtle about the wine. Dense blackberry fruit with hickory spice and firm tannins. Does it get any better than Malbec in this weather? $13.95 (750ml x 12)

Silvano Bolmida Babera d'Alba. Don't mistake this wine for a Barbera d'Asti, which is typically light and floral. This is a dense brooding red with uplifting acidity that will raise your meal to the next level. Papow! $17.95 (375ml x 12)
